Friedrich Hänssler Senior (d.1972) founded Musikverlag Hänssler in 1919 to publish church music. Since 1972 Hänssler Classic has also published contemporary and jazz music. In 2002 Hänssler became part of SCM, Stiftung Christlicher Medien - a Christian media foundation. The label is one of the publishers of the classical radio station Südwestrundfunk
