. The first fragment, a stone weighting about 3.5 kg, was found by a girl named Sarah Sherlock 3 km south of Homestead. The area was wooded and covered by snow: the search was not easy. On 10 February a 40-centimeters snowfall banketed the ground, therefore the great majority of the fragments were not discovered until spring. The 74 lbs main mass was found along with a 48 pound fragment buried 2 foot (0.6096 m) in the soil.

In total approximately 230 kg were discovered.
