, birthplace of Bao Zhen and one of the four national science and education base cities. Founded in 1955, HNU is a full-time normal undergraduate university under the supervision of Anhui Province.

HNU attaches great importance to undergraduate education. Presently, it has 12 departments, 4 public basic course departments, 25 undergraduate programs and 30 junior college programs. The student population totals about 12,600.

With two campuses——Sanxiao Kou Campus and Jing Xiu Campus, HNU covers a total area of 603 Mu and the architecture area of schoolhouse reaches 285,000 square meters. The total instruments and equipments used in teaching and scientific research value more than 36 million RMB. HNU has established 13 comprehensive laboratories and 3 experimental center of public education——computer science, phonetic sound and teaching skill training. The library of HNU boasts a collection of 836,000 p-books, 41,000 e-books, 1419 foreign&domestic journals and 6 Chinese&English database.

The number of full-time teachers in HNU is 462, including 31 professors, 86 associate professors and 65 doctors. 66.3% of them hold the degree of master or above. Of all the teachers, there is 1 distinguished visiting professor of WanJiang Scholars, 1 provincial distinguished teacher, 4 provincial academic leaders, 5 backbone teachers, 4 enjoyed special allowances from the State Council and Anhui Government, 4 hold the doctoral supervisor and 14 hold the master supervisor in some key universities.

HNU has set up Teacher Education Research Center and Art of Chinese Poetry Research Center, as well as 8 research institutes on ancient books, fundamental math, coordination chemistry, etc. In the research field such as electromagnetic fieldµwave technology, art of Chinese poetry, distance geometry and collation of ancient books, HNU enjoys comparative advantage in China. And some others are in leading position in Anhui, such as the research of coordination chemistry, optical information science&technology and history of foreign education.

In the last three years, HNU assumed 172 scientific research programs of different levels and classes among which 5 are in the National Social and Natural Science Fund Program. The Academic Journal of Hefei Normal University is a core journal of CSSCI (Chinese Social Science Citation Index). High School Mathematics Teaching directed by the university is rated National Outstanding Scientific Journal by Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.
