History

The school was demolished and a new school building constructed, reopening in 1959.

The school was fully renovated in 1996 with additional space added for administrative offices, library, science, art, and music classrooms.

The School's mascot used to be the Hearts before being changed to the Hawks in 2006.

Class structure

The kindergarten through fifth grade classes are all taught by one teacher except for art, music, library, and gym. In the sixth grade, one teacher teaches social studies to both classes and the other teacher teaches science to both classes. The classes are also divided by ability in math. In the seventh and eighth grades, there are home-room teachers with other subjects taught by specialist teachers (science, Spanish/French, English, math and social studies). In 1997 A.E.Ryan was Artist-in-Residence and in 2003, Professor Jeremy Solomons was the Drama Artist-in-Residence.

Student participation

Pre-K through Grade 3 students participate in a monthly Heath Family Meeting. In grades 4-8, elected representatives serve on Student Council and two 8th graders also serve as members of the Heath School Council.

All grades participate in community service, and Heath has an ongoing relationship with the Ronald McDonald House as a community service project for 6-8 graders. In November 1988 the sixth graders took part in a 24 hour fast to support Oxfam
