 until 2009. Its district headquarter is located in the town of Hattian Bala. It consists of three tehsils Chikar, Leepa & Hattian Bala. This district has many Famous visiting points. It is situated near the banks of the Jehlum river. It had produced many prominent politicians like Raja Haider Khan, Sahibzada Ishaaq Zafar, Raja Farooq Haider Khan, Dr. Mohammad Mushtaq etc.

The education level is very high as almost 97% of the population is well educated and many people can also read and write. Schools are located in all the villages and there are 7 colleges. For higher studies of sciences, medicine and engineering, students are studying in Pakistan and in other countries.
