One day Abu Jahl came to visit Umar. He took it upon himself to beat Zunairah. He beat her to such an extent that she lost her eyesight.

liberated Zunairah, her sister Umm Ubays and Zunairah's fellow captive Lubaynah. When it came to freeing believing slaves, Abu Bakr did not think twice about paying the huge sums demanded by their torturers.
