, Germany and a major rail junction east of Frankfurt am Main.

The first Hanau station was built on the Frankfurt-Hanau Railway at the location of the current Hanau West station, close to Hanau city centre.

In 1868 the Frankfurt-Bebra Railway reached Hanau and in 1873 the crossing of the Main river on a bridge at Hanau-Steinheim was opened. So a new, larger station was built at the intersection of the new line and old line, which continues to Aschaffenburg. This new station was placed about 2 km to the east of the old station due to the position of the river bridge. The new station was initially called Hanau East, but was later renamed Hanau Hauptbahnhof. In 1881 it was connected with the Friedberg–Hanau Railway and last in 1882 with the Odenwald Railway to Erbach
