The station opened on 29 September 1986. It is located in the middle of a housing estate and forms an unofficial footpath between the two sides. In March 2008 work began on a new car park for the station.

The name is not a misprint - generations of local accents and dialects have ensured Hall i' th' Wood maintains its local spelling. It takes its name from the nearby Hall i' th' Wood

Services

The station has a basic hourly service in each direction (including Sundays), northwards to Blackburn & Clitheroe and southwards to Bolton & Manchester Victoria. Additional services call at peak periods.
