 to reduce the burden on DU. The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was formed by passing a bill in legislative assembly. GGSIPU was established with a focus towards professional courses, unlike Delhi University which is more oriented for general courses.

Eighty five percent of the total seats intake in programs of university were made for Delhi students only, which applies for all the schools, centres and colleges located in Delhi. This special mass reservation provides much needed opportunities to the students of Delhi, as the students were no longer required to go to far-flung states like Karnataka

 has recognized the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and has declared it eligible for receiving Central

 assistance in terms of Rules under Section 12-B of the U.G.C. Act, 1956. Earlier the University had already been included in the list of Universities maintained by the Commission under Section 2(f) of the U.G.C. Act. The Government of Delhi continued to provide full grant to meet the recurring as well as non-recurring expenditure for the first five years that is up to 2004-2005, in addition to the matching grant required to be provided for Development Corpus Fund, every year.

Since 2005-2006 onwards, that is after five years of establishment of university, the Government of Delhi meets the demand of non-recurring expenditures only, which includes, building maintenance, purchase of laboratory equipments, books, office furniture and other technical and non-technical equipments.

All are present at either main campus (Dwarka) or Kashmere Gate campus; they are among the pioneer institutions of the university. . Kashmere Gate was the original campus where university was established, and Dwarka campus is the new campus of university. At present time university is now functioning from its Dwarka campus spread over an area of 60 acres where a still considerable portion is under construction. Almost all of its departments have shifted from Kashmere Gate, except University School of Management Studies, University School of Education and University School of Architecture & Planning which will shift in July, 2011; the University School of Information Technology is running from both campuses. On Dwarka campus, the university is running 10 schools and imparting professional education to more than 3000 graduate and post-graduate students.

University Information Resource Center (Library)



The library, re-christened as University Information Resource Centre (UIRC), was established in September 1999 with the prime responsibility to supplement the education and knowledge needs of the students, researchers and its faculty members. As like other departments of university, UIRC has shifted to the Dwarka campus, but the Information Technology and Business sections are still in Kashmere Gate. The services offered by UIRC are fully computerized. It has Web OPAC system with university’s website which helps its members and international academic community to assess the information on the library holdings on-line. The centre at present serves about 4000 members.
