Gurgel BR-800 was a little Brazilian car produced between 1988 and early 1992. The first prototype was produced in 1987. In almost four years of production, less than 4,000 BR-800 were produced. In 1992, the production of BR-800 was over; Gurgel became to produce the Gurgel Supermini, its last vehicle in production. Being better than BR-800, the Supermini became even worse than BR-800 in sells. Less than 2,000 Gurgel Supermini were produced between 1992 and 1994, when the Gurgel went to complete bankruptcy, in Brazil.

Gurgel BR-800 had just two cylinders and relative comfort for only two persons, inside it. Behind two or even three more people could stay, but without no comfort and enough space.
Between 1988 and July, 1990, only Gurgel BR-800 had a tax of just 5%, against at least 37% for all the other cars in production in Brazil. Gurgel lost these two years, producing very little BR-800.In July 1990, then Brazilian president Fernando Collor decided that the level of tax for BR-800 will become the same as the FIAT Uno Mille. At almost the same price as BR-800. In potency, comfort, size, style, etc. Uno Mille was far better than BR-800. The sells of BR-800 that never were good, became next to nothing. The production of BR-800 became over in first weeks of 1992.
Without the sells of jeeps, since January 1991 and with the sells of BR-800 and Gurgel Supermini failures, the Gurgel didn't pay all the salaries of its workers in December 1992. In last months of 1993, Gurgel production became almost over.Gurgel went to complete bankruptcy in 1994.Gurgel never paid nothing of its loans given by then Brazilian president José Sarney and two Brazilian states. After all, this car was a commercial failure. Just about a hundred of these remains in Brazilian streets today. Even being so rare, they don't enjoy great value at all. One used BR-800 costs about US$2,500 in good situation.
