 government in 2003. The school was founded in April 2004 . The following year, Gunma Kokusai Academy opened its doors with a first grade (106 students) and fourth grade (59 students). In 2006, a second and a fifth grade were added to the school. In the following year a sixth and a third grade were also added. Every year one more grade is added as the original fourth graders progress. In April 2008, Gunma Kokusai Academy started their first junior high class. In April 2011, the high school started with the junior and senior high school sections moving to a new secondary school
