Political Stance

Guardian News and Media's publications/websites (including Guardian America) have a left of centre political stance - ranging from centre-ground liberal to left-wing socialist in some comment parts of the site.

Format

Guardian America is only available online, although Guardian Weekly, an international version of The Guardian is available in print and online.

Ownership

Guardian America is controlled by Guardian News and Media (GNM). GNM is controlled by Guardian Media Group (GMG), which is controlled by the Scott Trust

, a charitable organisation which aims to ensure the editorial independence of the publications and Web Sites of GMG.

Guardian Weekly

Guardian Weekly is similar to Guardian America in that it is not UK focused, although Guardian Weekly provides a more international focus, and is only updated weekly (Guardian America carries breaking news).

Guardian Abroad

Guardian Abroad is designed to provide information (not news) to British expatriates. It is, therefore, very different from Guardian Weekly and, even more so, Guardian America.

Background

Comment is Free (CiF) is the comment part of the Guardian and is named after a quote by veteran Guardian editor CP Scott: "Comment is free, but facts are sacred". It is a site where Guardian writers publish a comment article then users respond, in the manner of blogs. This is different from Guardian talk, where the discussions are started by Guardian Unlimited users.

America on CiF

As of 28 October 2007 United States is the most frequent topic (with 932 articles). The second most frequent topic is Iraq (which the USA is heavily involved in). There are also many articles about George Bush.
