 about 50 km before its confluence with the Touws River, and then flows east, past Van Wyksdorp, to its confluence with the Gouritz River.

In fact: At the point where the Buffels River and the Klein-Swartberg River meet, the name changes to Groot River at this stage the river runs south until the Touws River joints it, it the turns east, it suddenly dips south again before it joins the Gouritz River.
