Features

It runs almost entirely along the coast of the Ionian Sea

 and the whole Western Peloponnese as well.
It will be completely replaced by a new motorway, numbered A9, which will be complete around 2012. Initial plans were to widen the existing road, for most of its length, but a completely new motorway will be built after all. Construction starts in late 2007.
