. Gillett is the home of the annual Gillett Coon Supper, one of the most important political events of the year. Gillett is known in the area for having a good and safe school system, and a long history of pride in its community.

Gillett will soon have two city parks, one controlled by the city and the other to be privately maintained. The latter, Menard Park, will provide a walking track and playground equipment for children. Also, in 2005, Gillett High School was recognized as the smallest public high school in the state of Arkansas.

Gillett High School


Gillett High School named its sports team Wolves. The school colors are orange and black. The Wolves football team made the state playoffs 23 times before the football team was ended in 2007, as a result of consolidation. In 2003, Gillett School District came under former Governor Mike Huckabee's rural school consolidation act. The bill required all school districts with fewer than 350 students to join with a neighboring school district. Gillett became part of De Witt School District, but GHS still had its identity. On April 29, 2009 the De Witt school board voted to close Gillett High School and bus the students to De Witt High School.
