Agriculture

Gabiley is renowned for its agricultural and farming industry and it is where most of the country's crops are produced. Some crops grown in the region are:
  • Corn known as "Elmi Jama"
  • Maize, Wheat, and barley
  • Beans, Peas, and groundnuts
  • Potato, tomato, Onion, Garlic, Salad, and Cabbage
  • Orange, Papaya, and watermelon.

. Some stones left behind (known as Arabian stones) which were believed to have been earmarked for the construction of pyramids. Those stones lay undisturbed for a long period of time between the town and the boarding school built in 1950.

In the early 1950s, health and sanitation in the city were an immense problem, particularly with regard to tuberculosis

Education

Primary education is almost available in the whole district; even the smaller communities have their own primary schools. On the other hand the chances to enrol a child at school in Gabiley district is far better than most of the country. For Post Secondary Education Timacade University was opened in 2009 to serve the needs of Gabiley Region students.

Healthcare

Gabiley Region has one operating hospital in the capital city of Gabiley.
It serves as a medical services for the whole region. It was opened in 2010.
