The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.90% White, 1.01% African American, 0.27% Native American, and 0.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.

Though many business have closed along with the mines, the Fredericktown-Millsboro area is home to a library (possibly the smallest in Pennsylvania), law offices, an optical center, two funeral homes, various Christian churches, a number of inns and taverns, as well as a few locally owned shops and one grocery store.

Settling alongside the Monongahela provided a means of transporting coal by barge. (Trains also run through the area. Both train and barge are still used to transport coal up river to areas closer to Pittsburgh.) The river used primarily for recreation, and many marinas and docks are seen along the river banks and Ten Mile Creek, a tributary of the river.
