Françoise was insulting to members of the French court. Antoine's parents repulsed her. Madame Adélaïde of Orléans, the sister of Antoine, wrote in several of her diary entries that Françoise was "Unprepared for royal life and uninteresting". Françoise was thought to be very ugly. Antoine never got the chance to see his son. Françoise tried her best to respect Antoine's parents but, she never got accepted into the family. She even tried to become friends with his sister, Princess Adelaide, but she left for America. Françoise hated everything in her new life. Upon Antoine's death, she went to Belgium and stayed there until her death in 1822. She never regretted leaving her enchanting, royal, glittering life behind. She insisted that she let her freedom sail away and she would never plan to do that again.
