She was reputed to be quite beautiful: "Eärwen's hair is stated to have been "starlike silver", like Olwë's, and her son Finrod inherited from her "a love of the sea and dreams of far lands that he had never seen".

It is probable that after the exile of the Noldor, Eärwen became queen of Eldamar alongside Finarfin.
