Chess career

In 2006, at the age of fourteen, Elena became a WGM, and a full IM. She won a succession of European and World girls’ junior

Illness and death

In early 2008, Elena became ill and she missed several tournaments. She later recovered, and returned to tournament successes. However, in December 2009, she fell ill again, and was unable to take her place in the latest Russian women’s superfinal.

On March 16, 2010, Elena died from this chronic undisclosed illness at the age of 18.
