The Electronic Records Archives (ERA) is an office of the United States National Archives and Records Administration
(NARA) which was officially established in 2000.
Initial planning and development of ERA began in 1997. The President and Congress supported ERA with appropriations.
In 2008, ERA accepted its first records from four pilot agencies. These agencies were:
In January 2009 it began to take in the electronic records of George W. Bush
’s White House.
NARA entered into partnerships with private companies to digitize thousands of traditional paper records. In time, this digitized material will be made available through the ERA.
