History

Digital Trends was founded by Ian Bell and Dan Gaul in June 2001 in Lake Oswego, Oregon under the name Designtechnica Corporation. The company was rechristened as Digital Trends in April 2006 and turned into a genuine business.

In May 2009, Digital Trends moved its headquarters from Lake Oswego, OR into the US Bancorp Tower in Downtown Portland, Oregon. The company was founded and still is a privately funded and owned corporation. According to rankings published by ComScore Media Metrix and Nielson NetRatings, Digital Trends is featured amongst the top 10 Consumer Electronics review sites.

The editorial team includes professionals, well-known journalists and acclaimed writers from around the globe, including David Elrich, Stewart Wolpin, Marc Saltzman, Nick Mokey and more. New hires go through a vigorous hiring process which includes in-house training so they may become familiar with Digital Trends writing style. Every story is fact-checked while more in-depth pieces require expert references and sources before the story is published. All in-house Digital Trends writers have a degree in writing or journalism.

Content

Its website provides information on consumer electronics products in the form of news, columns, professional reviews, how-to guides and videos. In addition to in-depth reviews by experts, the site also works as a platform for common users/readers to share their knowledge and experience with experts and other users on consumer products like mobile phones, laptops, TV and more. Digital Trends adopts the AP and Yahoo Style Guides for writing.

The website registers more than 3 million unique visitors and about 10 million page views each month, and reaches over 40 million readers through syndication.
