In the season 1949, Deportivo Pereira made its debut in Colombian Professional Soccer, replacing University, founded in club Bogota

In more than fifty years has never been champion of the first division, reaching four third places in their best presentations. The last of it, in 1974. The owl had landed injured near the corner of the field when Moreno walked over and kicked it about three yards. Atletico Junior fans shouted "murder, murder."
