, Evans was appointed to serve out the remainder of his term. He was elected to his own full term in 1998, and reelected in 2000, 2002, and 2004.

In 2006, Evans was term limited and unable to run for another term. With Hottinger also term limited from the Senate, he again returned to the House, succeeding his own successor. Evans subsequently retired from politics altogether.
