The actual city of Davenport is quite small and has very little commercial enterprise. The greater Davenport area has several hotels/motels, restaurants, and continues to grow.

The area around Davenport in northwest Polk County used to be centered around the remote Circus World amusement park. It was redeveloped in 1987 into Boardwalk and Baseball
