s, very nearly winning for a record-breaking seventh time. In 1996 at age 42, he returned again to place 5th, running the marathon in 2:45.

Triathlon career

Having started his impressive winning streak only two years after the first ever Ironman contest, Scott shaped the sport of triathlon. His victories and his heart-breaking battles with Mark Allen are highlights in the history of the sport in the US. Scott for a period held the world record for an Ironman Distance event, with a time of 8:01.59 in Japan 1989. He also held the course record in Ironman Hawaii from 1980 to February 1982, and again from October 1982 to 1989.

During the period in which he won all six of his Hawaiian triathlons Dave Scott followed a strict vegetarian (vegan) diet. However, since 1992 he is no longer strictly vegetarian.

Scott works as a triathlon coach, fitness consultant, motivational speaker, commentator, and corporate consultant. In 2011, Scott was inducted into the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame.
