History

Under the Sultan's warrant, the Darüşşafaka Association was founded in 30 March 1863 under the name of "Cemiyet-i Tedrisiye-i İslamiye" for the training and education of needy orphans. Its first activity was facilitating the education of appprentices of the Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı) in their spare time. The name of the association was changed to "Türk Okutma Kurumu" on 26 April 1935 and finally to "Darüşşafaka Cemiyeti" on 3 January 1953.

The Darüşşafaka Association's main institutions are the Darüşşafaka High School
