Adams first came to public attention in 1955, when he displayed his "home movies" of his life in Northern Australia, showing how to live with the mammals, marsupials, reptiles, rodents, giant fish, dugongs and sharks.
He had made a home base in a cave in the Sir Edward Pellew Islands and hunted with local Aborigines.

Adams drove copies of the movie, titled Northern Safari, from city to city, creating a national sensation and establishing a pattern for white male adventurers in Australia that has been followed by such characters as Bush Tucker Man
