Released during military dictatorship, the album is strongly critical of that kind of government, as one can see in Deus lhe pague, direct criticism to ditactorship, and Samba de Orly, on the exile of politicians and artist. In this work, Chico Buarque also criticizes the way of life of the Brazilian workers, comparing them to machines in two songs: Cotidiano and Construção.
