Shortly after Circuit City filed for bankruptcy and went out of business, Systemax, a computer hardware company whose secondary business includes buying defunct retail companies began negotiating to purchase the Web domain from the trademark's owners and relaunch it as an online store. The sale was completed on May 19, 2009.
