Butler was born on February 6, 1865 to Washington Irving and Henrietta Butler in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Career

From 1912 to 1926, Butler was judge in the Colorado district court. He was a Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court 1927 to 1937, serving as Chief Justice from 1935 to 1936.
