Since its doors opened in 1997, the ZKM has become an important platform for the production and exhibition of contemporary art and emergent media technologies. The building is a 312 meter long converted former arms factory of IWKA and is shared with the Karlsruhe University of Art and Design.

The ZKM frequently hosts lectures, conferences, exhibitions and screenings, and regularly publishes several books and media. Professor Peter Weibel
