The tactics-oriented courses are offered as training for operational command and staff duties and generally are a prerequisite for promotion for army officers of all classifications and tactical helicopter pilots.
The college is also the army's formation operations centre of excellence and is responsible for preparing headquarters for domestic and international deployments.

History
The Canadian Army began staff training in England during the Second World War. Staff training moved to Canada, and four-to-six-month courses were delivered for a short time at the Royal Military College of CanadaRoyal Military College of Canada
