Calves is one of the most romantic spots of Póvoa de Varzim, with the ruins of Aqueduct of Santa Clara within bushes and palace houses built by returning Portuguese immigrants in Brazil (the Brasileiros), returning after becoming rich in that country. Calves is also home to the factory where Tapetes de Beiriz (Beiriz carpets) are produced. Despite its bucolic appearance the area suffers from suburban growth.
