Commissioned as a coast freighter in 1946 with name
Ottawa Mahill, it was commissioned in 1947 as the CCG C.P. Edwards
for the Department of Transport's Marine Service, using the prefix "Canadian Government Ship", she served as a light vessel.

She was transferred into the newly-created Canadian Coast Guard in 1962, and was decommissioned in 1974. Acquired by Kilbear Construction Company Limited and scrapped in 1976.

The ship is named for former Deputy Minister of the Department of Transport (1941-1948) and later Deputy Minister of Air Transport.

C.P. Edwards was stationed in Parry Sound and remained there until being scrapped.
