Brown's Mock Trial team is a registered member of the American Mock Trial Association  (AMTA) and competes at official AMTA tournaments throughout the year, preparing its members for a future career in trial advocacy. Brown University itself has no law school, and the team has no coach and no faculty advisor. Within the structure of Brown University, the Mock Trial team is a Category III organization registered with the Student Activities Office and receives funding from Brown's Undergraduate Finance Board.

Leadership

The Brown Mock Trial Team is a student-run organization with no permanent faculty advisor and no attorney coach. Leadership is determined by general body elections annually. All training, coaching, and administrative work are the students' responsibility.

Success

The team has sent at least one team to a national American Mock Trial Association tournament for the past six years. In 2007 the team placed second place at Hamline University

's Silver Tournament Kohler Division , earned a bid to the Championship Tournament at Stetson University, and placed within the top 5% of the nation's college teams, placing in the top 28 out of a pool of 560 teams registered with AMTA.

Composition

The Mock Trial organization is composed of undergraduates of all years and various majors (Mathematics, Chemistry, International Relations, Economics, History, Biology, etc.), and depending on the membership sends two to four separate teams every year to any given tournament. Students are assigned the duty of performing a witness character or acting as a trial attorney (or both).
