Post office controversy

In 2006, the landlord of the post office at Green Spring Station announced that they would not renew the lease on the space that the office held for more than 23 years. The firm had planned to offer the space to a nearby bakery, which had wanted to expand.

The post office's initial plan was to merge the location with the office in Timonium, Maryland, which is located several miles away. This, however, irked area businesses and more than 500 P.O. Box holders, who said they would find a trip to Timonium more difficult.

After local elected officials scrambled, a new home for the post office was found in a nearby building. The new location opened in July 2006.
