, primarily serving underprivileged youth in communities throughout the country.

Until 2005, the national organization was merely a method for individual clubs to network with others. In 2005 the National Organization underwent a rebranding process, part of which brought the over 100 different Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Canada closer together than they had ever been.

Information about the Organization

The Boys and Girls Club of Canada (BGCC) has over 100 clubs, and is one of the largest Canadian organizations dedicated to serving youth. These clubs are located in neighborhoods where they are most needed: First Nation Reserves, rural communities, and large city centers. Since the development of the BBCC, nearly 3 million Canadian youth have participated and benefited from the club.

The BGCC provides quality after-school and out-of-school programs to children and youth, seeking to facilitate physical, educational and social development. Through play and education, participants develop life skills, as well as realize and achieve their best potential. Core values of the Boys and Girls Club of Canada includes: inclusion and opportunity, respect and belonging, empowerment, collaboration, and speaking out.

Each Club has trained staff and volunteers that are qualified to be positive role models and facilitate a positive environment. Children and youth are able to establish a positive relationship with adults, and are also encouraged to develop and sustain healthy relationships with peers and family members.

Programs are offered after school, as well as sometimes in the evenings and weekends, because of the likelihood that youth are to be victimized or develop anti-social habits at this time. Families are provided with structured, supervised services, which include meals, emergency shelter and other family support programs. In order to be easily accessible to the families that need it most, the Club fees are affordable and can be subsidized when necessary.

The Boys and Girls Club of Canada is an inclusive program regardless of race, religion, and socioeconomic status. Clubs also strive to be inclusive of those with disabilities. Helping all kinds of youth develop skills and build confidence, the Clubs empower youth and allows for the development of leadership skills. Staff encourages the youth to share ideas and help shape the nature of the programs.
