Torchlight Parade & Dance. Traditionally held on the July 3, Benicia’s 4th of July parade stretches all the way down First Street and typically includes music, dancing, floats, horses, clowns, and live entertainment. A street dance and live entertainment traditionally follow the parade on First Street. There is no entry fee for this event.

Picnic in the Park & Fireworks. On July 4, there is a large community picnic at Benicia’s City Park

The Holy Ghost Parade. Every fourth Sunday in July the Portuguese community of Benicia celebrates the feast of the Holy Ghost. This tradition commemorates Queen Saint Isabel of Portugal saving the starving peasants. The residents of Benicia celebrate this with a parade to Saint Dominics Church where mass is said. Three young girls are chosen to march in the parade as representations of Queen Isabel. Upon thier return to the Portuguese Hall, sopas, a traditional Portuguese dish, is served. Following this is an auction and dance. The Holy Ghost Parade recently celebrated 100 years in Benicia in 2007. This event is free and open to the public.
