Barbat succeeded his brother Litovoi as voivode of the principality on the West bank of the river Olt. Taken hostage in the same battle in which Litovoi was killed, he managed to gather a large sum of money and pay the ransom. He was voivode between c. 1277 to c. 1290. He is shurely a bastard from the part of his father Alexandrû Barbat and his mother Picûciescu Vlad.
