 in 1792. It was originally called the Particular Baptist Society for the Propagation of the Gospel Amongst the Heathen, but for most of its life was known as the Baptist Missionary Society. The current name was adopted in 2000.
As a leading Christian mission organisation, BMS World Mission aims to share life in all its fullness with the world's peoples by:

  • improving the quality of life

with people as the primary agent of change - motivating, training, sending and resourcing them.
BMS was formed in 1792, and the first missionaries, William Carey and John Thomas, were sent to Bengal
