) from whom the city derives its name from. His clan first established their residence in the Chhatrion ka Morcha locality on the banks of river Luni

, which still exhibits the antiquity of historical relevance. Gradually the settlement grew into a village and later on into a major town with an increase in Textile related economic activities.

Balotra has some fine temples in the city and its vicinity - like the Chonch Mandir, Mohanrajji Mandir, Jaanraajji Mandir, Narsinghji Mandir, Hanumanji Mandir (in the city), and Khed Mandir (Ranchchodraiji), Hanumanji Nadi in the outskirts.

Balotra has good educational facilities.Government Colleges for boys and girls are located in the heart of the city. Govt. I.T.I and Govt. Polytechnic college are also situated in the outskirts of the city. Student from nearby villages come here to pursue their further studies. A large number of schools for secondary, primary education with well-equipped facilities.
