Baiko Gakuin University

The predecessor of the school was founded in 1872, and it was chartered as a junior women's college in 1967. The school's emblem (a stylized plum blossom) and kanji name {{nihongo|'''Baiko'''|梅光|Baikō}} reflect the names of the two schools merged to form Baiko Gakuin. In 2001, the school began to operate as a co-ed, four-year college; the women's junior college continued to run within the university until 2006, when it was dissolved and its operations folded into the University. The school has a long affiliation with its namesake women's junior high and high school, Baiko jo Gakuin, also in Shimonoseki.
