The BAM material is amenable to application as a hard, wear-resistant coating, using

or magnetron sputtering. Applying a thin coating to moving parts of machinery that would reduce friction and increase wear resistance could have a significant effect in boosting efficiency. Cutting tools could also be improved by such a coating.
