The VIII Biobío Region is one of Chile's 15 first order administrative divisions. Its capital is Concepción which is the main city of Greater Concepcion conurbation, the second largest urban agglomeration in Chile. It comprises four provinces, and is the second most important region of in the country, after the metropolitan area of Santiago. It is bordered to the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by Argentina, on the north by Maule Region, and on the south by Araucanía Region.
