. Given that Aveline was only ten years old, the marriage was not consummated until 1273, when she turned fourteen. Her last surviving brother, Thomas, died in 1269, and she inherited his titles, becoming Countess of Aumale.

On 2 February 1273, Aveline inherited the land formerly held by her father and briefly by her elder brother, but she died the following year, and was buried in Westminster Abbey
