There are three sorting areas, serving export and import commodities, a specialized area / container for oil tanks, and a petroleum refinery.

Natural resources include limestone, clay, coal, petroleum, marble, and lime.

Tourist attractions include El- Ein El -Sokhna area, (an important recreational and medical centre) and a variety of historic sites like Moses' springs, Muhammad Aly Palace, Roman Catholic Church and Judaic Hill at El- Khoor.

In 1975, Suez Public Free Zone was established. This is in two locations: Port Tewfik (an area of 75660 m2), adjacent to Suez port's fence, and Adabeya (an area of 247208 m2) overlooking Suez bay coast at 5km distance from Adabeya Port.
