A beehive is an enclosed structure in which some honey bee species of the genus Apis live and raise their young. Natural beehives are naturally-occurring structures occupied by honey bee colonies, while domesticated honey bees live in man-made beehives, often in an apiary.... . The instrument records the aggregate sound made by the buzzing of the bees' wings. They were thought to be useful for predicting when a colony is preparing to swarm.
E.F. Wood invented and patented the apidictor in 1964. Only 300 are reported to have been sold.
