Anda has a population of 500,000. It is located in at the center of the Songnen plain, considered the best plain in China by many Chinese. It is famous for cattle raising and its dairy industry. Locals call it 'the city of cows'. In fact, many roads in Anda have the word "cow" or "牛" as part of their names. For example, "牛市路", is "Cow City Road".

Anda has a long history. Some locals believe that the train station there is built by the Japanese army in the 1940s.

In the 1990s, Anda produced beets. But after it stopped production, the local economy declined.
