It is a private-non-profit-co-educational-day school that offers a demanding K-12 English-language curriculum to expatriate students in Muscat. With more than 60 different countries represented in a school community of around 720 students, the ABA promotes academic excellence within a context of respect for and understanding of cultural diversity. The students themselves come from various countries over the world and there is no dominant cultural majority. The ABA draws experienced teachers from 18 nations to teach challenging courses and provide a supportive international learning environment for students. Most teachers come from [[New Zealand]], [[Pakistan]], [[Australia]] and [[United Kingdom]], but educators from [[Canada]], [[United States of America]] as well as from regions in [[South America]], the [[Middle East]], [[Asia]], and Eastern [[Europe]] form a sizable contingent and all contribute to the international character of the school. The ABA is fully accredited by both the [[Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools]] and the [[European Council of International Schools]]. The ABA is also an "IB World School," authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (Grades 1-5), the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (Grades 6-10), and the [[International Baccalaureate]] Diploma Program (Grades 11-12). The ABA shares an excellent rapport with schools over the Persian Gulf for sports, art and other creative activities. ABA has hosted various sporting tournaments in the Gulf and Mediterranean and has also hosted Academic Games and Junior and Senior Arts Festivals (EMAC). {{coord missing|Oman}}
